Wood Block Print of Woman with Branch, Title: Kochoro (Fragrant Butterfly Residence) Wood block print has a woman standing in the center wearing three kimono the outer one is beige, the second one is orange and the inner blue one has a key design (Buddhist knot). She has a large grey obi with a floral design tied around the waist. Her head is bent down and her eyes are crossed. Her arms are raised above her head holding a branch with pink flowers at the end. Another tree branch extends in to the picture at the left. The background is blue with black bamboo. Painted fusama doors. Black kanji printed in the right side of the picture "Tsubone Yashiki (refers to woman's mansion), "Katchoro" name of building, print made by "Toyokuni" and distributed by "Sanoki" (1790-1860's). There are a number of worm holes at the top of the print. On the back in pencil is "Toyokuni", "1816", "#106, Pongee Mat" The print was double matted with the inner blue and the outer off white silk pongee mat. The black painted wood frame has an inner bevel painted gold. The back has a faded blue dust paper and picture wire is attached to two screw eyes. The print was removed from the matting and frame due to acid migration.
