Description
Niju-ike Style Vase for Ikebana Flower Arrangement This wooden container resembles the traditional Japanese vase made of a bamboo cylinder cut with nado window in the middle so that two levels contain two flower arrangements. The donor said that her father had carved this container from a fir tree. A cylinder was created by hollowing out the log and then cutting two windows so that the upper and lower parts of the cylinder are supported by two uprights. On the outside of the upper section is a burl which grew on the tree naturally. The bark has been removed and the surface sanded and stained brown and polished. Two tin cans have been inserted into the openings of the upper and lower sections to create vessels for the flower arrangements. The insides of the cans and the interior of the wood are painted black.
