Service, Tea - Artifacts

Description
Chabako Tea Set in Black Lacquered Box containing tea bowl tea caddy, whisk with holder, ceramic jar with stopper, ceramic container, silk napkin, tea spoon. Tea set is stored in lidded cardboard box with a drop front. A: Wooden Box with black lacquer, rectangular shaped inner walls recessed at the top to accomodate the lid. A large split in the bottom. B: Box Lid, made of black lacquered wood, rectangular shaped, has four sides which fit over rim of box bottom. C: Box Shelf, Black lacquered wood, with four short sides, and a two inch diameter hole in the front right corner, to accomodate the tea whisk. A crack half way across the bottom, and one extending from the hole. D: Chawan Tea Bowl, H: 2.5", Dia: 4.375", ceramic bowl with straight sides has a beige racked glaze on inside and outside walls. On the outside are white chrysanthemums orange and gold centers in all over pattern, rim has painted gold line. Unglazed bottom has ring shaped pedistal. E: Whisk, Chasen, 4.5" long, made of bamboo, with a node at top of handle, bamboo is split in circle around outside edge and then cut into two rows of fringes, one on the outside shaped like a bell and the inside fringe curved in so they meet in the middle. Black cotton thread is woven in and out around the spokes of the outer fringe near the handle. the whisk is used to knead or stir the powdered green tea after water has been added. It is warmed in water to prevent the spokes from splintering. F: Chasen, Tea Whisk Holder, H: 4.25", Dia: 1.5", made of black lacquered wood, it is cylindrical shaped, bulging near middle top, narrow at bottom, with flaired out edge. Used to keep chasen in shape, fits into box with top protruding in hole in shelf. G & H: Tea Caddy, Natsume, H: 1.75", Dia: 2.5", Black lacquered wood, round shape with flat top, containing powdered green tea. G: Bottom of Tea caddy, cup shaped with recessed rim, on one side is red painted mouse, outlined in gold, comma shaped. H: Caddy Lid, has gold ornament painted on top, painted cord tied in a bow through a hole in the ornament. red mouse outlined in gold climbing on top of it. I: Tea Spoon, Chashaku, made of bamboo, 7.5" long, narrow near end of handle, flairs out and points out into a scoop at the other end. At the end of the handle is decorative node. At the top is dark brown. J: Silk Napkin, Fukusa, 5.5" X 5.25", Twil weave brown silk with woven pattern of stylized arrows. The cloth is doubled and sewn at the edges. Some stains. K & L: Ceramic Jar, H: 3.25", Dia: 2", K: White ceramic Jar with four flat sides slightly indented at four corners, flat shouldered with standing rim. Blue design on the four sides include plum tree, orchids in rock, bamboo branches, chrysanthemums. Triangular shaped petals radiate from rim on shoulder. Two blue lines around rim. Blue kanji on bottom. L: Jar Stopper, palm leaves bound around hard ring tied together in two places at the top to create a handle. M: Ceramic container, Size of saki cup, H: 2", Dia: 1.375", matches ceramic jar, white porcelain with blue designs on two of the straight sides is bamboo branch and plum tree branch with kanji, the other two flat sides have three white stripes on the background, four corners are indented.
