[hou po]; [chuan po] Cortex Magnoliae Officinalis The dried barks of Magnolia officinalis Rehd. et Wils. or Magnolia officinalis var. biloba Rehd. et Wils.(family Magnoliaceae). 1. to promote the flow of vital energy for the treatment of gastro-intestinal distension with pain due to food stagnation. 2. to invigorate the function of the spleen by drying up the dampness for the treatment of vomiting, diarrhea due to dyspepsia. 3. to relieve cough and asthmatic conditions with profuse phlegm.
