Robe - Artifacts

Description
Silk robe made in China for the western market A: Ivory colored satin lined with light weight silk twill of the same color. Down both sides of the front, over the shoulders down the back and on the back of the sleeves are embroidered motifs in satin stitch outlined with gold couching. Motifs include medallion shapes with a green and purple Chinese junk, a brown and beige sail, yellow purple and blue waves, green, brown and yellow mountains, blue and purple pavilion, pink, yellow, purple and green flowers and brown birds. Between the medallions are large flowers on branches. They include pink, white and purple plum blossoms, pink, purple and blue peonies, yellow, orange and purple citron blossom. Yellow, orange, and purple chrysanthemums. There are two purple, fuschia, orange and yellow butterflies on the back. Robe is sewn in style of Japanese kimono with straight sides and back square sleeves, and a collar band which runs down to the hem. Loop sewn on inside neck for hanging. B: There is a 1.5" wide matching tie that goes through two fabric loops under each arm.
