Doll - Artifacts

Description
Large wood Kokeshi doll with a wide circumference and tall in hieght. The face of the doll is very simple detail. The head is made separately and attached to the highly lacquered body. Painted details are black, green, and red. The head is crowned with two hair tassels in front with red head gear mixed with black to resemble hair. The attached bottom cylinder piece is detailed with various widths of green and red striping circling the top with natural wood exposed between stripes. The middle 2/3rds of the body is of two large red flowers, one on top of the other with four red flower buds and green leaves surrounding the top red flower, and is only painted on the front. The bottom of the cylinder is banded with various widths of green and red stripes with natural wood exposed between stripes. The back has only the top and bottom striping for its only decoration. The top of the body has an outline of turning. There are knicks and gouges on the finish. The bottom has calligraphed characters. The basic Kokeshi doll form is a cylinder body with a sphere-shaped head with no detailing of arms or legs. Kokeshi dolls are made of wood with hand painted faces and painted front with a high lacquered finish.
