Shawl - Artifacts

Description
One silk textile of shawl-length dimensinos, with multi-colored geometrical designs. The textile is divided lengthwise into 2 sections; one filled with 4 bands in green, orange, blue, and yellow-shot with red. The 2nd section has 3 horizontal sections, the 2 outer ones having continuous stepped zig-zags in white, hot pink, blue, and orange on one band; and green, hot pink, purple, and yellow in the other; all shot with red warp. The central section has a series of squares filled with various stepped motifs and diagonals, in all the above colors. At each end is a border 9.5" wide with alternating narrow multi-colored stripes and wider stepped designs. The "shot" weave imparts a subtle modulation to the bright hues. Hand-made on a simple loom. Donor's father collected a number of textiles while stationed in the Philippines as an Army officer c. 1900-1917.
