Description
A silver-grey silk Chinese coat, 3/4 length, with satin-stitch embroidery of flowers, bamboo, and butterflies. The coat is open down the front with five silver spherical buttons and loops spaced about 3.5" apart starting from the top of the round neck, the space between the top two buttons being 2.5". The coat widens towards the hem as do the sleeves, each measuring 14.4" wide at hem. The neck, front opening, hem, sleeves, and bout 3/4 of the side slits are trimmed with white coiled braiding, forming borders filled with floral embroidery in ash-grey. Bamboo-like vines with plumes of flowers decorate the main body of the garment (on front and back) in a free-flowing pattern. From the 1920's. "Origin uncertain, probably received from uncle".
