A tan-colored "Satsuma" pitcher with floral decoration. The handle of the pitcher is fashioned to resemble a bamboo stem. Sides have flowers and butterflies. Decorative border on lip and handle. Vertical grooves on sides. Artist's signature on side. Tan glaze with painted decoration. For table use. The decoration refers to (probably) the symbolic Chinese pair of goldfish, standing for the union of happiness and utility. Damage: Lip and handle repaired with brownish glue in which some cracks have formed -- 3.5" of the circumference of the mouth, about halfway under the handle, and at junctures of handle with body. Glue flaking at these junctures.
