Description
9 - Metal Mirrors salvaged by Henry B. Cary from a metal scrap pile donated by Japanese for war effort. Metalwork with raised designs; cast and engraving; mercury polished backs. A) Small circular metal hand mirror (3.5" diameter) with floral spray design. B) Rectangular hand mirror (2" x 5") with Japanese characters, three plants, stream on reverse. C) Small circular metal hand mirror (3" diameter) with handle. Scene of house, bamboo, plum blossoms, waves on reverse. D) Circular hand mirror (5.75" diameter) with handle. Scene of phoenix flying down to three pines at edge of stream on reverse. E) Circular hand mirror (4.75 diam.) with handle. Scene of flowers on a fence, family mon and Japanese characters on reverse. F) Circular metal hand mirror (7" diameter) with handle. Scene of a large Japanese character imposed over a pine with two storks on reverse. G) Circular hand mirror (8" diameter) with handle. Scene of tree, stork, and bamboo under large Japanese characters. H) Circular hand mirror (9.5" diameter) with handle. Japanese character and Japanese and Buddhist Good Luck emblems scattered over ground. I) Circular metal hand mirror (9.25" diam.) with handle. Tree, bamboo, stork.
