The bottom of bowl has a base 3/4" high decorated with the "thunder-line" motif, which originated in the Shang Dynasty (c. 1700-1100 BC), and derived from the pre-historic Chinese character for thunder. The white sides of the bowl have the I-Ching designs in gold outlined in brown, and are topped with a linear patterned border. The rim is painted gold. Interior has a blue-green glaze as does bottom of bowl. Hand-made. Used for serving food. Many scratches on interior. Patches in green glaze. Maker's insignium on bottom.
