Summary
The story of the concubine Yang Guifei, the beautiful lover of the Tang emperor Xuanzong. One of the great romantic tragedies in Chinese literature. During the An Lushan Rebellion, the besotted emperor flees with Yang; but his guards dislike her and the influence she holds over the emperor, and refuse to carry her to safety. They insist that she be executed en route.
