This is a primer on classical Chinese as used in traditional medical texts. Part 1, "Selected Texts", presents 40 works and excerpts from the history of Chinese traditional medicine, with introductions and annotations. Part 2, "Basic Information on Classical Chinese" contains six chapters: 1. Chinese characters; 2. Lexical meanings; 3. Grammar; 4. Syntax of ancient texts; 5. Examples of annotations in ancient texts; and 6. A general introduction to reference works. There is also an appendix containing a glossary of 386 commonly encountered terms.
