Lao She (the pen name of Shu Qingchun (February 3, 1899 ? August 24, 1966)) was a very influential writer of the first part of the 20th century. Rickshaw Boy, "...also known in the West as "Camel Xiangzi" or "Rickshaw"), was published in 1936. It describes the tragic life of a rickshaw puller in Beijing of the 1920s and is considered to be a classic of modern Chinese literature. The English version Rickshaw Boy became a US bestseller in 1945."-- Wikipedia. Evan King is the pen name of Robert Spencer Ward (1906-1968) his translation was unauthorized and evidently took many liberties with the original.
