Lt. Gen. John L. DeWitt, commaning general of the Western Defense Comman, announced that all Japanese on the West Coast will have been removed by May 20. In the meantime, colleges and universities outside the exclusion zone said they would be willing to accept Japanese American students being evacuated from the West Coast.
