Description
Leather-bound photo album with embroidered black velvet cover. A: Black leather souvenir photo album for U.S. Navy personnel, formerly belonging to Stanley T. Rice. The cover is embossed with stereotypical scenes of Asia. The central motifs include an American Bald Eagle with banner in beak which reads, "Memory of my China Cruise" and a ship's anchor with life ring lettered with, "U.S.N. Asiatic Fleet". Each of the four corners features a different port stop: "Hawaii", "China" , "Japan", "Philippines". In the lower left corner is a rickshaw, in the upper left a Chinese style dragon, in the upper right a Japanese pagoda, and in the lower right a double-sail sanpan. The pages of the scrapbook are black and feature a variety of black and white and tinted souvenir photographs. Cover is lined with pink and blue plaid silk and the edges are trimmed in red fabric. Embroidered on the front is a Chinese style dragon, a rickshaw, a pagoda, a sanpan, and a ship's anchor with "USN". In orange thread is embroidered, "S.T. Rice, U.S. Navy". The embroidered scenes are sewn withorange, brown, gray, yellow, green, black, purple and pink threads. On the back cover is a pair of crossed U.S. Flags with a Bald Eagle above stitched in similar colors.
