Pages are tied with black cord and album fastens with tab and snap. Inside pages are heavy black pattern with interleaf of yellow tissue. First and last interleaf are patterned green tissue with pink, yellow and purple sunbursts made by folding paper. Inside covers of album are gold silk damask with circular dragon pattern. Stuck inside is a loose photograph cut from a magazine labeled: For thousands of years, Chinese trackers have muscled boats up the Yangtze. On the reverse side is a handwritten label: Compare with my photos of 1931 - "not a pair of pants on the river". 95 pages of photographs of a trip to China

2003.200.004 Print, Photographic Pictured here is Maria Mahoy, a daughter of Bill Mahoy, one of the early Hawaiian laborers who worked for the Hudson's Bay Company. She was born in Goldstream, British Columbia in 1857, and passed away in 1936.
2003.200.005 Print, Photographic In 1937, Soo Hong (Gregory) Chew returned to his village in Toison County to marry Wee Gam Har. However, due to restrictions against immigration of Chinese women, she did not join her husband in the U.S. until 1950, seven years after the repeal of the Chinese Exclusion Act. 0
2003.200.006 Print, Photographic Kee Chinn, one of the first Chinese interpreters hired in Washington state by the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service, worked in Port Townshend, an early port of entry for the Chinese. He eventually settled in Seattle and is pictured with his family circa 1913.
2003.200.007 Print, Photographic Unlike the Chinese, the Japanese were permitted to bring women to America and started families in the early 1900s. Many of these women came as "picture brides," wed to men they had never met.
1991.003.008 Photograph Black photograph album, back cover has a black silk cover with a woven circular design 7 5/8" in diameter in the center including the character for longevity. It has three holes laced with black woven cord to bind the pages. Mounted on the front cover is a 9 x 11 1/2" woven silk satin fabric with a light gray background and navy blue representations of a dragon, bats, the sea, etc., with a floral border on three sides. It is framed by a navy silk tape 1 1/8" wide with narrow grey borders. Inside the front cover is a rust colored fabric with woven patterns of clouds and stylized calligraphy. At the left is a 12 3/4" x 4 1/2" painting on fabric of a seated figure at a table, a standing figure at his left, on the other side of the table is a kneeling figure and two standing figures holding bamboo staves. Inside the back cover is a yellow fabric with woven cloud patterns and vertical rows of stylized calligraphy. At the right is a 12 3/4" x 4 3/8" painting of four standing figures in front of a table on which there are several ceramic objects. They ar examining a small bowl. One individual rests his left foot on a type of crutch. There is a white patterned paper divider inside the cover. The first album text has a 6 x 8 3/4" colored picture of a mongol seated cross legged on a low bench or throne. Next page is blank. 91 pages of black and white photographs of trip through China.

2003.200.009 Print, Photographic The first Filipino woman in Washington state, Rufina Clemente Jenkins, arrived in Seattle with her husband and children in 1909. Rufina, a Spanish-American War bride, met her husband Frank Jenkins while he was stationed in the Philippines.
2003.200.010 Print, Photographic By 1930, there were about 25,000 Filipino sailors, primarily stewards and chefs. Many eventually served more than 20 years in the Navy. Pictured is Seattle resident Gene del Rosario, who enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942.
2003.200.011 Print, Photographic "Pensionados," students subsidized by the Philippine governmen, came to this countruy beginning in the early 1900s with the dreams of furthering their education. Even for later immigrants, education is still seen as a means to a better future. Pictured is the University of Washington Filipino Student Association in 1952.
2003.200.012 Print, Photographic In 1972, the Korean Women's Assocaition was establised in Tacoma to provide mutual support to Korean women married to Americans. The organization offers Englih as a Second Language programs and other services for Asian Pacific Americans in Pierce County. Pictured is a gathering of the Association in the 1980s.
