Untitled Black Pastel Painting Depicts the heads of three young Japanese American men at the left of the painting, the silhouette of a military guard with rifle, and a watchtower with fence to the right of the painting. The drawing is done in black and gray with pencil and oil/wax based crayon on the textured surface of light weight watercolour paper and finished with a spatter of various shades of green, brown and indigo watercolour paints. Many spontaneous fine lines are drawn around the images and silhouettes to give the gradation of value between the unpainted white background and the solid black masses. The artist has signed the front middle in pencil with his name "Lee J. Wexler". Originally the painting was attached to black paper with double sided tape.
