Tenugui - Artifacts

Description
This tenugui is off the bolt (sideways) and the left and right edges are not hemmed. The scene on the piece is of spring and done in the wax-resist method. To the left are a series of TORII gates signifying entry into or exit out of a sacred location (Shinto) A small boy wearing a brown top, indigo pants and blue geta is holding the hand of an adult male in mustard yellow and red top and blue pants, with red geta. They are watching people performing a fox dance on a mustard yellow mat under a cherry blossom tree which looms over them. One performer is playing the TAIKO, wearing a brown top and indigo and white bottoms. Another performer wears a fox mask askew on his head while he plays the FUE (Flute) wearing white and indigo hapi. Another performer wears a fox mask and dances wearing a gray top and brown pants. He holds wands of folded white paper hanging from them, which are often used for shinto rituals. Under the cherry tree of grey and indigo with white blossoms, is a red structure on stilts with green, white and red striped banners decorating the far side of it. The area to the top of the tree is accented in blue.
