2010 Chinese Heritage Tour of the American West
Seattle Sights
(approximately 3-4 days):
Day 1:
Arrive in Seattle. Explore the Wing Luke Museum of the Asian Pacific American Experience. Take a tour of the Chinatown-International District through Chinatown Discovery Tours.
Day 2:
Travel north for a short day hike along the Iron Goat Trail.
Day 3-4:
Travel north for a longer hike to Monte Cristo. (This is a longer hike so leave early or plan to stay the night at Monte Cristo or a nearby campsite.)
Only have a day?
Make a day of it in the Chinatown-International District. The Wing Luke Museum of the Asian Pacific American Experience serves as your home base, with tours of its historic hotel and the Chinatown-International District.

Baker City Base
(approximately 2-3 days):
Day 1:
Arrive in Baker City. Trek to the Ah Hee Diggings. Explore the Baker City Chinese Cemetery and Baker Heritage Museum.
Day 2:
Travel west to the Sumpter Valley Dredge State Heritage Area. Then head to John Day to experience the Kam Wah Chung State Heritage Site. Return to Baker City for an evening at the Geiser Grand Hotel.
Only have a day?
Focus your time at the Ah Hee Diggings and Baker City Chinese Cemetery to trace the life of a Chinese American miner.

Journey from Boise
(approximately 2-3 days):
Day 1:
Arrive in Boise. Visit the Idaho State Historical Museum. Trek to Idaho City and the Pon Yam House.
Day 2:
Set out for a day long adventure in the Warren Mining District.
Day 3:
Travel east to the Minidoka National Historic Site. Continue your exploration of the Japanese American experience at the Hagerman Fossil Beds National Monument.
Only have a day?
Make your pick! Head west to explore Idaho City and the Pon Yam House. Head east to pilgrimage to the Minidoka National Historic Site.

Elko Adventure
(approximately 1-2 days):
Day 1:
Arrive in Elko. Set out for Tuscarora.
Day 2:
Arrange to visit Island Mountain.

Reno Sampler
(approximately 1-2 days):
Day 1:
Arrive in Reno. Arrange visit at Nevada State Museum and research in their archives and collections.
Day 2:
Spend the day in historic Virginia City.

Portland to Boise
(approximately 4-5 days):
Day 1:
Journey from Portland to John Day.
Day 2:
Explore the Kam Wah Chung State Heritage Site. Head to the Sumpter Valley Dredge State Heritage Area. Then on to Baker City for the night.
Day 3:

Day 4:
Continue your journey east to Idaho City and the Pon Yam House. Then head to Boise to complete your trip or extend your journey from Boise.

of the American West:

Fly home from Reno.
